Virgílio Raposo was born in Lagos, Algarve, Portugal in 1955. He comes from a fisherman´s family and first studiest economics at university whilst learning painting with a master painter. He then turned to art as a career.
The dynamic of light and shadow, reflections on water, and the ocean is evident in the oil paintings of Virgílio. The subject matter is varied, ranging from his great love of fishing boats at sea to studies of the shoreline and coastal beauty spots along the Algarve.The paintings express a sensitivity to atmosphere, light and space.
Viriglio also lived many years in Angola, Namibia when he was a child reflected in the love he have for painting the dunes.
Viriglio's work is represented in several collections(independent and official) all over the world.
Now he lives in Carvoeiro, Algarve, Portugal with is wife Luísa Aleixo who also an artist.
