Virgílio Raposo was born in Lagos, Algarve, Portugal in 1955. He is from a fisherman´s family and first studiest economics at university whilst earning to paint with a master artist. Viriglio then chose art as a career. The dynamic of light and shadow; reflections on water and the ocean is evident in Viriglio's oil paintings. The subject matter is varied, ranging from his great love of fishing boats at sea to studies of the shoreline and coastal beauty spots along the Algarve. The paintings express a sensitivity to atmosphere, light and space. Viriglio lived in in Angola, Namibia when he was a child, which shows the love he has for painting dunes. His work is represented in several collections(independent and official) all over the world. Viriglio lives in Carvoeiro, Algarve, Portugal with is wife Luísa Aleixo who also an artist.
